Duties:
The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the county. He is responsible for prosecuting violations of criminal statutes, motor vehicle code, fish and game laws, probation and parole infractions and breaches of court orders pertaining to criminal proceedings.
The DA is also charged with responding to all appeals. This entails the filing of lengthy legal briefs and appearances before the appellate courts as may be required.
To act as a legal advisor to municipal and state police, county and state probation officers, children and youth services and other public safety agencies.
The office is staffed with two secretaries, one file clerk, a victim/witness coordinator, three detectives and two assistant district attorneys.
One county detective is responsible for administering the domestic violence and sexual assault grant program and another heads up the drug task force. The chief county detective is the lead investigator and liaison between the various agencies which the DA's office deals with in the course of its business.
The Bradford County District Attorney's Office is staffed with eight persons. There is the District Attorney, who is elected, the two Assistant District Attorney's, a Chief County Detective, a Victim/Witness coordinator and three secretaries. As Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the County, the District Attorney and his staff represent the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the enforcement and prosecution of the criminal laws of the Commonwealth.
The Attorney's appear at preliminary hearings before the four District Magistrates, as well as in front of the two Court of Common Pleas Judges and our Juvenile Court. They assist law enforcement officers with the preparation of search warrants and in case preparation when requested.
The County Detective assists with investigations, serves subpoenas, serves warrants, transports prisoners as well as other duties at the request of the District Attorney.
The Victim Witness Coordinator works with both victims and witnesses in preparing for their appearance in court, as well as working to help victims obtain restitution for stolen or damaged property and medical expenses. |
